God is Good, All the Time

Susan:
There’s a well-loved song that says “It’ll be worth it all, when we see Jesus”. I want
you to know that it’s worth it all, now.
This past January I went to our family doctor about some pain in my left side. Sitting
in his office during that first visit and listening as he scheduled a CT Scan, I began to
realize that this was pretty serious. His words were “you wouldn’t know it to look at
her, but I have a very sick woman in my office”. The Scan showed a 6 in. tumor and I
was scheduled to see a specialist immediately. Dana and I embarked on an
adventure that seemed like it was happening to someone else. I was scheduled for
surgery and while I was still in recovery, Dana was informed that I had Stage 3
Ovarian Cancer.
Dana:
There is a borrowed phrase we use that says “God is good all the time, and all the
time God is good”. Reciting that truth is quite easy, but believing it and living it can
sometimes be a real test of our faith and trust in God. At some point in our life we will
experience something that can cause us to wonder “why is this happening to me?”
God never promised us an easy life, but He did say “I will never leave you or forsake
you”.
In Psalm 112: 1&2 God’s word declares “Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who
fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in
the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Verse 7 states “He will have no
fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord”. In other words when
bad news comes, TRUST GOD!
Our testimony is not about us seeking sympathy, but about God’s goodness and
faithfulness to us during some difficult times.
Susan:
No one likes to hear they have cancer…or that what they have is incurable. But God
has given such peace.
Because the Lord was preparing the way beforehand, Ps 16:9 became a reality for
me. “Therefore my heart is glad and my inner self rejoices, my body too shall rest and
confidently dwell in safety”. The Lord started preparing us back in September when
Pastor Baley called asking if I was okay. Then in the beginning of November, my
dear friend, Gail called saying the Lord had awakened her in the night to pray for me.
Our prayer group, many friends and family started praying before we knew what we
were facing, all during surgery, and they have not ceased to pray for me since. I can
only tell you that God has a wonderful plan in the midst of this.
Through the surgery, the recovery, and now the chemotherapy treatments, God’s
peace has been so evident. He’s providing for everything we need. He allowed my
recovery from major surgery to be swift. He’s given me the strength to go back to
work. God is answering powerfully and He’s working in the lives of so many people
as they see him answer mightily on my behalf.
Dana:
As you can imagine the news that Susan has Ovarian Cancer has changed our lives
forever.
We went to the Word of God where we could find the hope and comfort that only He
can give. A friend gave us the verse Jeremiah 32:27. It states” I am the Lord, the
God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” This told us that no matter what
we were facing it was not too big for God.
Another verse that is dear to us is Jeremiah 29:11. “ For I know the plans I have for
you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future.”
Susan is now half way through her chemo therapy treatments and is responding well to
them. God is good all the time!
God has a plan for each of us.” Not to harm you “instead of becoming bitter, we can
with God’s strength become better. “Hope and a future”, there is no guarantee that
life will always be easy, but the one who puts their faith and trust in Jesus Christ has no
fear of bad news. It has been said “we may not know what the future holds, but we
know the one who holds the future.” Our hope is in heaven through Jesus Christ. In
John 14:6 Jesus states “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the
Father but by me”.
Our desire for you is to have this same hope. If you have never put your faith and
trust in Jesus please consider it tonight. We know we could not face with confidence
and hope, what has already taken place, what we are going through now and what is
in the future without Christ as our Savior.
There is a Hymn that states it best:
BECAUSE HE LIVES: CHORUS
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives
Truly we can say, “God is Good, All the Time.”
