Welcome! Thanks for visiting our little "harbor" amid life's storms. We hope you
will find rest and encouragement in your struggles, big or small. Here you can:
The other day a friend asked me what quiet
times were like when my youngest was a baby.
I think I laughed. "And prayer?" she wanted
to know. "Anywhere I could--doing laundry,
on the potty..."
It's hard to find even an uninterrupted moment
when our children are young. When we do, I
like to think of these as tiny gifts from God,
Mom's Moments. The times I remember that
God "gently leads those that have young."
Sometimes the gift-wrap is rather strange.
Usually it comes in the form of a screaming
child or a never-ending cycle of laundry
brought on by the flu. One Sunday it came
packaged in a little five-year-old "button-
pusher." Zach decided that we must go to
McDonald's, and for whatever reason,
couldn't believe no meant no that day.
He pestered, weedled, pleaded, and cajoled
as I wrestled my kids into jackets and around
the maze of other parents and toddlers, aiming
desperately for the door.
My frustration limit was far exceeded and I
forbid him from talking on the way home. I
was sure one more word and I would explode.
Time for a Mom's Moment!
When we got home, I sent Zach to his room, and I went downstairs to talk to God.
Twenty minutes later a contrite and cautious boy ventured out to find why I hadn't
come back for him--and he found me reading and praying. "Why?" he wanted to know.
As I snuggled him close, I said, "my patience is limited, but God's is unlimited. When I
reach my limit, I need to go to the One who's patience never runs out, and draw on
Him."
Our kids need to see our faith lived out. They need sometimes to see us in need, to
see God reach down and minister to us.
"He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
He gently leads those that have young."
Isaiah 40:11
Have you been carried lately? Has God's still, small voice broken through the
cacaphony of a hectic life that hold our hearts at arm's length from His? Rest in Him.
Have you ever held a child that didn't want to be held? They wriggle, twist, push,
stretch--perhaps even fight. Sometimes we do the same in God's arms. Remember
He's offering you a Mom Moment--the opportunity to have your burden carried, to be
gently lead even if you mess up--to be carried close to His heart.
